Upper Zambezi | Namibia (8 days) - MTSZA 4004
|
|
Fly into Livingstone or Vic Falls - spend 3 days here. Then into the Caprivi to spend another 2 days on the Kwando River. Then to Etosha National Park for another 2 days. Fly out of Windhoek
Day 1
Clients arrive in Vic Falls or Livingstone airports. Will be transported to our campsites in either VF or Livingstone, depending on which country they decide to fly in to. Usually this arrival is by late morning.
This gives them time to settle in and have lunch. At about 16:00 we depart for the Falls and spend the rest of the afternoon there.
Day 2
This day is open for the clients to do as they please. They can either go canoeing, rafting, fly with a microlight or helicopter or even bungee jump - the choice is theirs. By late afternoon we spend some time in either of the towns doing shopping.
Day 3
Up early to break camp and pack our stuff. We drive westwards along the Zambezi River and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Hopefully we might even see some wildlife along the way. Shortly after lunch time, we should enter Namibia.
We proceed directly to the town of Katima Mulilo where we do some shopping for our days ahead. Then we proceed another 140 km on a good tarred road until we reach the Kwando River. Here we make our camp at one of the secluded and very private campsites.
Day 4
A lazy morning for we are right in the middle of "the last paradise". We enjoy the sights and sounds of the African veld awakening around us in all its magnificent splendour. After breakfast, we go on a game drive to try and find some of the biggest elephant herds in the world.
We will either eat a picnic-style lunch or return to our camp to depart in another direction afterwards. Return to base by late afternoon.
Day 5
We drive through the Caprivi National Park to the town of Rundu and then we turn south. Along the way we stop at a few markets for some African art. By late afternoon we make our camp near the town of Grootfontein. This whole section is on good tarred road and even though it is about 550 km.
Day 6
Up early after a cup of coffee and a small breakfast. In Grootfontein we do some shopping and have a "brunch". Then we drive via the mining town of Tsumeb to the Etosha National Park. Hopefully we can book into Halali Campsite which is in the middle of the Etosha.
By late afternoon our camp should be standing and whilst the supper is cooking on the fire, we can enjoy the sights of animals coming to the watering hole to drink. Usually we spend most of the evening watching and waiting whilst allowing the gentle silence of the African veld to soothe our souls.
Day 7
Another lazy morning with a late breakfast. We break camp and make our way slowly westwards, driving from watering hole to watering hole. By 15:00 h we should be at Okaukeujo campsite. This is the main campsite in the Etosha and is lovely situated overlooking a small pan where the animals gather in huge numbers. Again we spend most of the afternoon and evening enjoying the "happenings" at the watering hole.
Day 8
We break camp and pack our bags leisurely. We now drive south through the last section of the Etosha National Park and then on to the town of Outjo where we have lunch. The last section of about 275 km to Windhoek and is on open road over the beautiful savannah plains of Namibia. We should be in Windhoek by 17:00 h.
