South | North Luangwa (11 days) - MTSZA 4008

 

Make the Luangwa Valley your safari destination and visit the whole of the Valley during you stay, from Island Bush Camp in the very South to North Luangwa National Park.

Day 1

Arrival at Kafunta Overnight Kafunta River Lodge, we discover the Mfuwe area with its high concentration of game on our first afternoon/night drive.Dinner is served on return of the Safari.

Day 2

We start the day at with a early wake-up call and a light Breakfast before we start of on the Morning Safari. After our return to the Lodge we take lunch and the midday is spend relaxing at the Camp, you have time to make sure of the pool and the natural hot tub. Later in the afternoon we set out for another afternoon/night Safari. A great opportunity to view rare nocturnal animals.

Day 3

After the Morning Safari and a light lunch we transfer to Island Bush Camp, we arrive at Island Bush Camp after 2 hours drive through wilderness area further south of Kafunta in a remote game rich area of the Park, there we leave the vehicle on the banks of the river and cross onto the Island by boat.

We overnight in the stylish designed elevated chalets with fantastic river views in the afternoon we take a short walk and enjoy the spectaculars sunset from the Island, and then back to camp for open air dinner and relax by the camp fire.

Day 4

The day starts early; we have a light Breakfast before setting out on our walking Safari with our Professional guide and also a National Parks scout accompanies the walk During the walking safaris our guides will have the chance to explain the essential details of the bush, including the intricate ecology of the area, tracks and droppings, indigenous plants and their medicinal and cultural uses, insects, reptiles etc. It makes an unmatched wildlife experience.

We return to the Camp for Brunch (Lunch) and relax at the Camp through the day watching the animals and views from you private verandas until later in the afternoon when it starts to cool down again we have afternoon Tea before departing on afternoon walk

Day 5

Today we are travelling from Island Bush Camp to Wilderness Camp in Luambe National Park. The drives takes 6 hours through remote villages and wilderness areas along the way, we stop at Kafunta for a first for Breakfast and during this welcome break the supplies are restocked before the Safari North which winds its way along the Luangwa River to the small little know Luambe National Park.

We arrive at our lodge Wilderness Camp during the afternoon and have time to settle in before we discover more of the Park on our afternoon walk or drive.

Day 6

We enjoy the great view over the Luangwa River and the huge pod of Hippos right in from of the Camp during Breakfast and then we continue our Safari. Today we travel 5 hours to Buffalo Camp in the centre of the North Luangwa National Park.

We drive through the Luangwa River and enter the North Luangwa NP and have a picnic lunch in Park and we arrive at the Camp in the early afternoon in time to settle in and take a short walk to enjoy the sunset over the Mwaleshi River.

Day 7/8

The remote wilderness of North Luangwa offers great game walks and often plentiful Lions and Buffalo can be seen from the Camp. The days start as always with first light, and then after a toast and coffee around the campfire we walk for a few hours in the cool of the morning, lunch is served after returning to the Camp and once the sun is lower we start of again on a afternoon walk and return to Camp before dark.

Meals are taken in the open air dinning room and the grass huts offer shelter for the night, here one truly feels one with nature.

Day 9

The drive back to Kafunta will take us 8 hours; we leave early and again enjoy the remote villages and wilderness areas we pass through along the way. Alternatively we can fly back this flight takes about 1 hour (and is an extra cost).

We stop for a picnic break during lunch time and arrive at Kafunta in the afternoon, after this adventure the comforts of the Lodge are a welcome sight and enjoy them with relaxing in our Thermal Hot Tub or pool or go onto a night Safari for those that are still keen on more game viewing.

Day 10

This day is spent on game drives in South Luangwa Park with further great photography opportunities and relaxing around the lodge.

Day 11

Depending on departure times there might be time for a last Safari before leaving for the Airport.
