Leaving the city of Kampala we head southwest through savannah grasslands covered in acacia trees towards the gorilla forests. We stop for the night next to the stunning Lake Bunyoni where we get chance to enjoy the sunset while looking out for otters and the many different types of bird life found in the area.
After breakfast we have chance to take a boat trip to discover the many islands around the lake. Explore Kabale Town before continuing our drive towards our Gorilla Trek. We spend the night just next to the National Park where the sounds of the forest can be heard very clearly.
Up early we meet with a park ranger before setting off to find the earth’s greatest primate. The trek can be steep and densely forested. It can take up to a full day, but the thrill of discovering this gentle giant in it’s own habitat is rated as one of Africa’s best wildlife watching opportunities.
We follow the winding road out of the mountains and back onto the savannah. Afterwards we return Lake Mburo National Park where we camp for the night.
We take a morning walking safari complete with a ranger, so we can get up close and personal on ground level to many of the beautiful and free animals of the park. Later today we will make our way back to Kampala and Jinja and the end of your Gorilla safari.
