Uganda Mountains and Bike Safaris/Gorillas

DAY 1
Arrive Entebbe, free day. Please contact us if you would like an airport transfer. Alternatively taxis are available outside the airport, approx $USD 10 to the Hotel where we meet you for a pre-trip briefing at 5pm.
NOTE: please change money at the airport on arrival for at least the first week of your tour.

DAY 2
After a relaxed breakfast we head to the shores of Lake Victoria to meet the boat that will take us to Bulaga Island, one of the Sesse Islands that abound in this huge lake. In the afternoon we will set up your bikes and explore part of the island, relax, swim and enjoy a taste of Island life.
Approx 20kms biking. Camping.

DAY 3
Leaving our beach camp we bike across Bugala Island to meet the local car ferry that will take us to the mainland. From here it’s a day on dirt roads passing through rural farmland to Lake Nabugabo. Approx 70kms biking. Camping.

DAY 4
Biking away from Lake Nabugabo its a short morning ride to meet the main road at Masaka. A short vehicle transfertakes us to the turn off to Lake Mburo National Park, a small little visited park teeming with plains game. This is one of the few national parks that it is possible for us to bike through as we head to our campsite right beside the lake. Watch Hippo as we enjoy a sunset over the lake.

DAY 5
Biking on through Lake Mburo National park view Zebra, Topi, Gazelle and more from the saddle as we head to the park gate. After lunch we are back in the support vehicle for a transfer eastwards, crossing the equator along the way to the Mpanga Forest Reserve. Approx 20kms biking. Camping.

DAY 6
We start the day with a drive through Kampala, the thriving capital of Uganda and on to Mukono. From here its back on our bikes and along dirt and back roads, through villages, rolling hills and farmland to Mabira Forest Reserve, one of the largest remaining virgin forests in Uganda. Approx 60kms biking. Camping.

DAY 7
Biking away from Mabira forest we carry on through rolling hills and sugar cane plantations to reach Jinja town, on the source of the river Nile. Then on to our campsite on the banks of the Nile. Approx 45 kms biking. Camping. Room upgrades available.

DAY 8
Experience white water rafting on the mighty White Nile (optional), help out with a local community project with Softpower Education or explore the local town and markets in Jinja. Camping. Room upgrades available.

DAY 9
Back in the saddle we follow a series of small dirt roads and tracks through villages and banana plantations as we head down river to our campsite on an island midstream in the river Nile.
Approx 50kms biking. Camping.

DAY 10
A final day\'s biking back towards Kampala, firstly on dirt roads then onto quiet paved roads as we get closer to the capital. Head out for the evening to sample the local cuisine (Own cost) Approx 40 km biking. Camping. Room upgrades available

DAY 11
For those flying out, its off to the airport. For those visiting the gorillas, continue reading for day 1 of the gorilla extension.

DAY 11
Leaving the city of Kampala we head southwest through savannah grasslands covered in acacia trees towards the gorilla forests. We stop for the night next to the stunning Lake Bunyoni where we get chance to enjoy the sunset while looking out for otters and the many different types of bird life found in the area.

DAY 12
After breakfast we have chance to take a boat trip to discover the many islands around the lake. Explore Kabale Town before continuing our drive towards our Gorilla Trek. We spend the night just next to the National Park where the sounds of the forest can be heard very clearly.

[DAY 13
Up early we meet with a park ranger before setting off to find the earth’s greatest primate. The trek can be steep and densely forested. It can take up to a full day, but the thrill of discovering this gentle giant in it’s own habitat is rated as one of Africa’s best wildlife watching opportunities.

DAY 14
We follow the winding road out of the mountains and back onto the savannah. Afterwards we return Lake Mburo National Park where we camp for the night.

DAY 15
We take a morning walking safari complete with a ranger, so we can get up close and personal on ground level to many of the beautiful and free animals of the park. Later today we will make our way back to Kampala and Jinja and the end of your Gorilla safari.
