Kruger Park

5 days Kruger National Park, Johannesburg plus Cheetah Endangered Species Centre Visit
- MTSS 002

DETAILED ITINERARY

5-day Safari- Days 1 and 2: Johannesburg to Kruger National Park: First Rest Camp

Arrive in Johannesburg for early morning departure from Johannesburg International Airport. Our experienced and registered Safari Guide, will meet and collect you in the morning at International Arrivals at the Airport (or nearby Hotel), with our airconditioned vehicle. We will depart for the first of our Rest Camps in the Kruger National Park, for the next few nights.

From there we travel to the Park( in a town on the way we will have a light lunch - included in price) and enter the Kruger National Park (approximately 500 km's and 5.5 hours later) at one of the southern- or western entrance gates. Then it is a slow-speed game drive to the first Rest Camp where will stay for the first 2 nights. We might then drive through the Berg-en-Dal area that falls in an eco-zone that is described as 'Malelane Mountain Bushveld'. This beautiful mountainous area has the highest rainfall in Kruger, and so produces many unique plants. It is a good area in which to find the white rhino. The vegetation tends to be more like that of the Bushveld than the true Lowveld. Look out for predators such as lion, hyena and wild dog. From this area, we drive northwards for the first Rest Camp. The Rest Camp falls in an eco-zone that is described as 'Southern Low Rolling Hills.' Fairly dense woody vegetation covers the area, which is therefore an ideal home for browsers and their hunters. Look out for predators such as lion, hyena, wild dog and leopard. Black rhino may also be found in the area. The 2 nights here allows us to explore further and we can visit the museum in the Rest Camp and relax at a picnic site along the Sabie River.

On the second night an exciting night-game drive is arranged for you to experience the nocturnal activities and to see animals normally not seen during day-time!

Accommodation in either an en-suite air-conditioned Chalet, with a 3-course dinner (every night included) eaten in the Rest Camp's Restaurant, or luxury camping in one of our brand new Commander off-road CARAVANS, with some barbecue dinners around the fire!

You may choose between any of these 2 recommended accommodation options:

Days 3 and 4: Second Rest Camp

Depart for the second of our intended Rest Camps for the next 2 nights. This Rest Camp is a firm favourite with many visitors for its wide green lawns and tranquil atmosphere. The Rest Camp falls in an eco-zone that is described as ' Knob Thorn / Marula Savannah.' These trees dominate these open grasslands. Large herds of zebra and wildebeest are often found together, with their main predators being lion and cheetah. The 2 nights here allows us to explore this game-rich area further and also to visit the Nwanetsi -area, etc. From 1st November 2006 we are adding a guided BIG 5 walk 2-to 4 hr's in company of experienced trail leader on one of these mornings.

Day 5: Depart Krugher National Park back to Johannesburg plus Cheetah Endangered Species Centre Visit

This is our last day,and we will depart early so we can visit the Cheetah Endangered Species Centre near the NP. So we pack up and depart from the Rest Camp, and after a final hearty breakfast at a picnic site along the way, we exit the Park. By now, you should have seen a great variety of fauna and flora, very likely including the BIG 5 and many others! We then visit the Cheetah Centre for a guided tour where we can view the endangered Cheetah (and the very rare and beautiful King Cheetah),the Wild Dog, Ground Horn Bill and variety of Vultures and other antelope / birds. We have a light lunch, and then we finally return to Johannesburg after a full day (approximately 4.5 hours drive). We do not recommend that you book a flight for a departure that same evening, but rather for the next day, due to the risk of unforeseen delays on the way back.
