5 day Kruger and Balule Adventure Safaris -
MTSS 003

DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: Johannesburg - Kruger National Park

Your trip starts at 9:30am this morning, with a transfer from O.R Tambo International Airport (formally Johannesburg International Airport) in an air-conditioned vehicle to our tea garden in White River, where a light lunch will be served before your transfer to the Kruger National Park. This is where your Kruger National Park safari really begins, and where you will meet your Shangaan guides. You should also have sufficient time this afternoon for a short game drive, and the chance to see some of the wildlife for which the park is internationally well known.

If the Big Five isn't about, try and look out for the Small Five and the Rare Five on your Kruger Park safari. The Small Five consists of the Elephant Shrew, Leopard Tortoise, Red billed Buffalo Weaver, Rhinoceros Beetle and the Ant Lion. If you're looking to spot the Rare Five, watch out for Aardvark, Black Rhino, Pangolin, Suni and Roan Antelope. Keep your binoculars and camera handy, because you never know what you'll spot next.

Upon returning to your camp site, there is time to freshen-up before enjoying drinks around the campfire. The evening continues with a delicious and wholesome dinner, prepared for you by an experienced Kruger Park safari cook. Your guides will entertain you with fascinating tales about both their culture, and the natural history of the Park. Dinner Included.

Day 2: Kruger National Park

In true Kruger Park safari style, your day starts early, with a wake-up call accompanied by tea or coffee. As wildlife is more active in the early hours of the day, this is the best time to see the animals for which the Park is justly famous.

You will learn much from your safari guides about animal behaviour, and the general ecology of the area. While on your Kruger Park safari be sure to look out for the most unusual tree in South Africa - the Sausage Tree.

The blood-red flowers of the South African Sausage Tree (Kigelia pinnata) bloom at night on long, ropelike stalks that hang down from the limbs. The fragrant, nectar-rich blossoms are pollinated by bats, insects and sunbirds in their native habitat.

An interesting fact about the pods of the Sausage Tree is that it can be used as a loofah. After the game drive, you will return to the rest camp for a delicious and refreshing breakfast / brunch. There is some time this afternoon for a siesta, or perhaps a dip in the swimming pool.

In the late afternoon you will enjoy the second game drive of the day. The rest of your evening is taken up with dinner, where you can discuss the day's findings with your guides and other guests. Brunch, Light lunch and Dinner Included.

Day 3: Kruger National Park - Balule Private Game Reserve

After an early wake up call you will move to the Flying Lions Camp in the Balule Private Game Reserve. You are accommodated at a rustic, authentic bush camp in Balule Private Game Reserve, where the 2 man dome tents are equipped with camping mattresses, stretchers, sleeping bags and pillows.

The camp boasts a viewing deck, which overlooks a floodlit water hole, a small swimming pool, and a bush boma (where you will dine under the African night sky). You have a choice of participating in a bush walk, or a combination of game drive / night drive this afternoon. Brunch, Light lunch and Dinner Included.
