| MALAWI COUNTRY INFORMATION |
Warm Heart of Africa
MALAWI is the warm, friendly heart of Africa - a place where the Great Rift Valley cuts into Southern Africa creating the magnificent fresh water lake which is synonymous with this country
Along this beautiful expanse of water - some 360 miles long and 50 miles wide -
lie thatch roof fishing villages, sugar and cotton farms and a profusion of mango and baobab trees.
In the high country on plateaus above dramatic escarpments, tea plantations abound. There are plains and marshlands and mountains, so there is no lack of imposing and dramatic scenery.
However, being a small country with a large population, there is very little wildlife left i Malawi, but its lovely countryside and relaxing atmosphere, make it a wonderful place to take a break from the rigors of bush travel.
The best place to do this is at a lodge on the lakeshore or in the exclusive surrounds of Liwonde National Park.
Travelers enter Malawi at the International Airport at
Lilongwe, by scheduled flight from London, Johannesburg or Harare |
